International Foundation Year

The International Foundation Year course is designed as a first step towards gaining a degree at a UK university. A major advantage of the Kingston College foundation year is that it is a Kingston University programme with successful students guaranteed a place at Kingston University. Students can also apply through UCAS to other universities of their choice and in the past students have progressed to some of the top ranking universities in the UK including: Bristol, Edinburgh and Royal Holloway University of London.

Programme of Study

All students follow a core programme of Academic and General English, Study Skills, IT and Mathematics. These modules provide the student with the essential skills they need during their undergraduate degree. The foundation course also develops international students’ confidence by improving the language and skills needed to do research, write essays, make presentations and participate in lectures, seminars, discussions and debates.

Study Options

In addition to the core programme students take one of the following options related to the course they wish to study at university. The options available are:

• Business and Management

• Computing

• Psychology

• Sociology

• Literature

• History

• Law

Entry Requirements

In order to be admitted to the Foundation Course all students must have:

• completed their senior secondary education (to a post GCSE level)

• IELTS 5.0 or equivalent (with 5.0 in the reading and writing sections)

• reached the age of 17 years

• a reference from a current or recent school or employer

• indicated which degree course they wish to follow at university

Tuition Fees

Fees for 2011-2012: £7,800

This includes the cost of essential books and materials and a programme of cultural and social events.
